Careproviders charge an hourly fee per child
|
Note:
1 Careproviders are required to comply with the principles of
fee setting as stated in the Department of Family and Community
Services (FaCS) Child Care Services Handbook 2005-2006: ‘Child
care services can determine their own fees and charging
practices. However…the service should not charge a fee for the
care of a child that exceeds the fee charged for any other child
where that child is receiving the same kind of care and whose
circumstances are similar.’
2.
It is
the policy of Darwin Family Day Care that all families are
notified of any changes to fee schedules two weeks in advance.
3.Under
the Trade Practices Act 1974, Family day Care schemes cannot
determine family day careproviders’ fees and Darwin Family Day
Care recognises and encourages the right of careproviders to set
fees freely under the Act. The ACCC administers the Trade
Practices Act 1974; the main purpose of which is to enhance the
welfare of Australians through the promotion of competition and
fair trading, and the provision of consumer protection. Log on

-
Careproviders are independent fee setters. This
means that each careprovider may set their own hourly rate.
See boxed note.
-
Families contract directly with the careprovider for
the hours of care that they require. i.e. 7.30 -5.00 pm Monday to
Friday equals 47.5 hours.
-
Costs will vary significantly depending on the number
of hours used, the careprovider fee schedule, shift work,
non-standard hours, full or part time, child care benefit percentage
and so
For example costs may be calculated for 38 hours or over as
follows:
Number of
hours x hourly rate + Administration levy (30 cents x number of hours
used/calculated for one child in the family) + optional services such as
food or travel.
less
Child
Care Benefit ($148 x Child Care Benefit % x non school age 100%)
Equals
Parent cost (parent portion or gap fee)
Note: Child Care Benefit is a means tested
child care subsidy,
